Kate was a natural athlete growing up, seen here with her field hockey team at Marlborough College in 1997. At Marlborough — rather as William and Harry did at Eton — Kate and Pippa seem to have had many of the same friends, such as Alice St John Webster (now Alvenel), who went on to Edinburgh University with Pippa; Emilia d’Erlanger, who introduced Kate to Prince William’s circle; and their team-mates Alicia Fox-Pitt and Trini Lough (front row, far right).
